Ms. Afifi Durr: Tel - Fax : (206) 367-4043 afifi@nwlink.com

I , Afifi G. Durr, Arabic Language & Translation Services, native of Lebanon, Middle East, and US citizen, am quite qualified to translate and interpret Arabic. I am very fluent in both English and Arabic and able to communicate tactfully delivering the essence of the translation in its original sense, flavor and meaning. I studied in private schools and in the American University of Beirut and continued my education with the University of Maryland, USA. My Arabic teacher in Lebanon was a poet, writer and press syndicate, as well as an excellent Arabic teacher. I learned to love and have passion for both the English and the Arabic Language simultaneously as I spoke both from birth with my father who was born in the U.S.

With my knowledge of Arabic and the Middle Eastern Culture, English and the U.S. the Gulf War, I conducted many seminars on “Middle East cultural awareness” and created a Forum that lasted two years on “Middle East – U.S. Dialogue”. Also, after September 11, I created the same “Middle East-U.S. Dialogue” which is still on-going for the understanding of the culture.

My past and extensive travel took me the Far East, Middle East including Iran and Europe. My career is enriched with my language and cultural skills.

My career in translation started 25 years ago, as a journalist translating international news. I am very reliable, conscience, flexible, dynamic, ethical, loyal, well knowledgeable, culturally sensitive, meet deadlines, and above all dedicated to my profession. Although there are many Arabic translators nowadays especially on the internet, I believe I am most suited and qualified to serve your needs. I understand both cultures very well and understand the dynamics and the diplomacy to handle them.

To be able to do translation and interpretation in any kind of language, it is important not only to know the language but also to understand the culture and the dynamics to achieve successful communication. Marketing, thinking, expressing and delivering the message clearly in these languages are extremely important. I am proud to say that I very skilled and good in understanding these dynamics. I have successfully managed to translate many subjects. In my own personal long career I tackled many complex, stressful, difficult and complicated matters. While facing them I stayed calm and successfully delivered the message. For example, when working in Iran with Control Data and during the Iranian revolution, I was able to approach the management in the Ministry of Education to pay us all the debts that they owed Control Data even after Control Data’s offices were forced to close as a result of the revolution. In Lebanon, the same thing happened during the Civil War I was able to communicate successfully and tactfully even in time of high stress and danger. At present, I do telephonic interpreting all over the United States with the Immigration Office. Sometimes, this also become very stressful, however, I tackle them with ease and tactfully delivering the clear message

As language providers and facilitators, we should understand our role and mission; to pave the way and build bridges of peace and understanding among all human beings. Understanding and building these bridges are so critical if we believe in democracy, justice and peace for all human beings. Computers have opened our avenues beyond limits. It is up to us to sore the sky and flip our wings. Our limits are open beyond the horizon.
